Tier 1 (Investor) Extension/
Settlement

The Tier 1 Investor Visa scheme is now closed to new entrants, but extension and settlement applications are still possible.

This is a pure investment visa: Tier 1 (Investor) visa holders can work if they want to, but they do not have to. The visa and settlement are granted simply based on the applicant holding sufficient funds (£2 million, £5 million or £10 million) and having appropriately invested them in British companies and maintained the amount of investment.

The visa was initially granted for three years, and settlement may be available after five years (on the £2 million route), three years (on the £5 million route) or two years (on the £10 million route); the two latter routes do not require any extension application. But if the main applicant has any dependants, they can only acquire settlement after five years, even if the main applicant can acquire it in less than five years.

There is no English requirement for extension applications but there are standard English language requirements for settlement.
