How Much Does it Cost to Get a Lasting Power of Attorney?

The cost of creating and registering a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is dependent on whether you want to create and register your LPA yourself, or hire a legal professional.

If you wish to create and register your LPA by yourself, you will have to pay an £82.00 registration fee to submit your LPA. Any fees charged by a legal professional shall be in addition to the registration fee.

How Much Do Solicitors Charge for a Lasting Power of Attorney?

In most cases, solicitors will charge a fixed fee for preparing your Lasting Power of Attorney. This fee will likely be dependent on the hourly rate they charge for their services.

You can pay the £82.00 registration fee by cheque, which should be made payable to the Office of the Public Guardian, or by card.

Can You Gain Exemption From Paying the Lasting Power of Attorney Registration Fee?

If you can't afford the fee required to register your Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG), there is help available.

The OPG provides a fee exemption, for which you will need to apply by completing the LPA120 form (you can download the Form here). The Form requires you to submit supporting evidence, and should be submitted alongside your LPA.
